Chilling Reign is the sixth Pokémon TCG expansion in the Sword & Shield Series. It will feature cards with the Battle Styles game mechanic announced during the previous set Sword & Shield – Battle Styles. It will include over 120 brand new cards. The set will be made up of cards from the Japanese sets Matchless Fighters (S5a) releasing April 23 and Silver Lance / Jet-Black Spirt (S6) releasing this March. It will feature new Pokemon TCG characters Ice Rider Calyrex and Shadow Rider Calyrex. This set will feature 5 different designs for booster packs, this last time this occurred was back in 2016 for the Sun & Moon base set.

March 31, 2021 – Today, The Pokémon Company International unveiled the next expansion for the best-selling Pokémon Trading Card Game, Sword & Shield—Chilling Reign, launching around the world on June 18, 2021.
 
Inspired by The Crown Tundra expansion for the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield video games, Sword & Shield—Chilling Reign introduces over 70 new Battle Styles cards for Trainers to improve their Single Strike or Rapid Strike deck.
 
Calyrex will make its Pokémon TCG debut as a Pokémon V and Pokémon VMAX in both Ice Rider and Shadow Rider forms, allowing players to bolster their decks, or create new ones, centered around this powerful Pokémon that will deliver exciting gameplay strategies. In addition, Trainers can look forward to playing with many new Pokémon V and Pokémon VMAX, including cards featuring Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres.
 
Available in booster packs, special collections, and two versions of the Elite Trainer Box featuring Ice Rider Calyrex and Shadow Rider Calyrex, the full Sword & Shield—Chilling Reign expansion includes the following:

  • Eight Pokémon VMAX
  • 15 Pokémon V and 26 full-art Pokémon V
  • 28 Trainer cards and 13 full-art Supporter cards
  • Three new Special Energy cards

 Trainers interested in playing with the expansion before it launches can do so by grabbing the Sword & Shield—Chilling Reign Build & Battle Box, available through their local participating Pokémon TCG retailer starting June 5. Each box contains four Sword & Shield—Chilling Reign booster packs; a 23-card Evolution pack featuring key cards from current and prior sets, including one of four alternate-art promo cards; and a deck-building tip sheet.”

Similar to Battle Styles, we can expect the following products:

Sleeved Booster Pack – Each pack contains 10 cards, 1 energy card, and a redeemable code card for the Pokemon Trading Card Game Online. Packs are sleeved in cardboard for retail sale.

Booster Box – Contains 36 individual booster packs.

3-Pack Blister – Contains three booster packs, a promo card, a plastic coin, and a redeemable code card. There are two promo card variations.

Checklane Blister – Contains one booster pack, a promo card, a plastic coin, and a redeemable code card. There are two promo card variants.

Premium Blister – Contains one booster pack, a 3-card complete evolution line, a plastic coin, and a redeemable code card. There are two evolution line variants.

Mini Portfolio – Contains one booster pack and a mini card album to display and store 60 cards.

Elite Trainer Box – There are two variants, one features Ice Rider Calyrex and the other features Shadow Rider Calyrex. Each ETB contains 8 booster packs, energy cards, protective card sleeves, die, damage counters, special condition markers, a Chilling Reign Player’s Guide, a rule book, and a special redeemable code card. The box comes with 4 dividers and also serves as a card holder to store your cards.

Build & Battle Box (Available Friday, June 4 at Hobby Stores and July 9 for Retail and Online Stores) – Each kit contains 4 booster packs, a 23-card Evolution pack, and a redeemable code card. There are four different evolution packs, each featuring a different Pokemon. They contain Pokemon, Trainer, and Energy cards from recent sets, not limited to Chilling Reign.

Like previous sets, supply will be released in multiple waves due to production shortages. This supply shortage is expected to continue throughout 2021, as a result of the demand for Pokemon cards quadrupling in 2020. Some distributors are increasing prices and preallocating the quantity available to retailers and stores. This means booster boxes prices for this set will sold at higher price than before. To maximize your chance of securing your product, at the best prices available. consider preordering as soon as possible well before the release.

V Battle Decks

V Battle Deck (Releases Friday, May 7) – Contains a 60-card preconstructed deck which includes one Pokemon V (Victini V or Gardevoir V). From the Venusaur / Blastoise V Battle Decks, it was noted most cards come from recent Sword & Shield series sets, but a few cards may come from unreleased sets, like Battle Styles.

Similar to theme decks, which were discontinued after Vivid Voltage, each product comes with a paper playmat, deckbox, damage counters, a large metallic coin, rule book, a redeemable code card. This deck has a Play Level indicator of 1 (with 3 being the highest), which means it’s meant for beginners. As pictured above, there will be a total of 3 products, comprised of the two different deck variants, and one product containing both 60-card decks.

Chilling Reign will available almost a day early at 1 pm EST on June 18, 2021 on the Pokemon TCG Online (PTCGO). This is perfect if you can’t wait to see what new cards are in Chilling Reign.
